About Us

National Geographic Digital Motion (formerly known as National Geographic Film Library) is the digital film library and archive for the Emmy Award-winning film produced by National Geographic Television. We have a century’s worth of the world’s most captivating digital film archive from around the globe, with thousands of hours of clips added each year.

The Collection


The National Geographic film archive is a diverse collection. We have amazing footage from around the world, captured by talented and adventurous filmmakers who are willing to endure Earth’s harshest extremes for never-before-seen images. The digital archive is filled with unparalleled visuals: not only nature and wildlife, but also people and cultures, history and archaeology, adventure and exploration, news and current events, and the world around us.

Variety of Available Formats


The National Geographic film library contains a wide variety of film formats available for licensing. In addition to our HD stock footage library, National Geographic Digital Motion licenses CGI, Super 16, 16mm, and 35mm film stock footage.

Content Partners


NGDM brings the whole world of stock film footage to its clients by representing some of the most notable international archives. Along with our content, Digital Motion represents peer-level archives, including Australian Broadcasting Corporation, INA of France, National Film Board of Canada, the White House Historical Association, ZDF Enterprises of Germany, and the World Bank, in select territories around the world.

National Geographic Digital Motion has recently been awarded the 2007 International Documentary Association Preservation and Scholarship Award, in recognition of National Geographic’s commitment to preserving historic films for posterity and for our dedication to making content accessible for successive generations.

National Geographic Digital Motion licenses stock footage from the Emmy Award-winning National Geographic Television & Film programming. The footage is licensed unbranded without audio tracks, so producers may customize it for their own television, film, or media project.

We provide stock footage in all formats, including HD stock footage, for all your digital media and broadcast requirements. Production services are also offered from Digital Motion. Camera crews around the world can shoot your next project and our documentary producers are available to produce your content.

Advertising

National Geographic Digital Motion offers publishers access to the archive for all National Geographic Television-produced film and video. For publishers, National Geographic Digital Motion is a creative resource for high quality, engaging video that supports and extends the major educational concepts and topics in K-12 and post secondary curricula. We license video to publishers and content providers in two different forms: video stock footage and programming.

Interactive & Broadband

National Geographic Digital Motion (NGDM) has extensive experience producing and distributing segments for mobile, broadband, gaming, IPTV, and VOD platforms.

We work in conjunction with the NationalGeographic.com short-form broadband video production unit to create premium video content specifically for the broadband marketplace. To date, National Geographic has produced more than 1,000 short-form videos for various platforms, including education and mobile, for both the U.S. and international marketplaces. Fresh and
relevant content is being added to the digital footage archive every day.
