How to License

How to Obtain a National Geographic Video License Quote

1. Footage Research

Call or email our office with a brief summary of your footage needs, including master format requirements. Depending on your request, we can:

  • Guide you through an online search on our website where you can view online material and store clips in your own account and/or email to other parties.
  • Provide you with a preview tape, DVD, or FTP digital file of your requested clips.

2. Footage Licensing

Once you have chosen the clips you’d like to license, we will give you a quote for the transfer cost and for the license fee. Rates depend on the term, territory, and usage requested. To determine the fee and to draft the agreement, we require the following information:
  • Term – the length of time (1 year, 10 years, in perpetuity, etc.)
  • Territory – the location (N. America, UK, Europe, worldwide, etc.)
  • Media – the way your project will be shown (cable broadcast, online, theatrical, tradeshow, broadcast, etc.)
  • Exposures – the number of times your project will be shown (transmissions, monitors, copies, audience, etc.)
